How to remove Wax from your Jesmonite vessels for repurposing

Jesmonite vessels make stunning, durable containers for candles, but what happens once your candle has burned out? Instead of discarding the vessel, you can easily remove the remaining wax and repurpose it for a variety of uses, such as a planter, pen holder, or decorative piece. Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to help you clean out your Jesmonite vessel safely and efficiently.

Step 1: Freeze the Vessel

One of the easiest ways to remove wax is by freezing it. Place your Jesmonite vessel in the freezer for about an hour. The cold temperature will cause the wax to contract, making it easier to pop out in chunks. Once frozen, use a butter knife or a spoon to gently lift and remove the hardened wax.

Step 2: Use the Hot Water Method

If freezing doesn’t remove all the wax, try the hot water method. Boil some water and carefully pour it into the vessel, leaving some space at the top. The heat will melt the wax, causing it to float to the surface. Once cooled, remove the hardened wax and discard it. Avoid pouring melted wax down the drain, as it can cause blockages.

Step 3: Wipe Away Residue with Paper Towels

After most of the wax is removed, use a paper towel or an old cloth to wipe away any remaining residue. If needed, repeat the hot water method to loosen stubborn bits.

Step 4: Clean with Warm, Soapy Water

To remove any lingering wax or fragrance oils, wash the vessel with warm, soapy water. Use a mild dish soap and a soft sponge to gently scrub the inside. Rinse thoroughly and let it air dry.

Step 5: Enjoy Your Repurposed Vessel!

Now that your Jesmonite vessel is clean, it’s ready to be repurposed. Use it as a chic plant pot, a stylish holder for makeup brushes, or a unique trinket dish. The possibilities are endless!

Repurposing your Jesmonite vessel not only gives it a new life but also reduces waste, making it a sustainable and eco-friendly choice. Have fun experimenting with different uses for your beautifully crafted container!
